Bakery student Amy Lewis
Seventeen-year-old Amy Lewis has baked at home ever since she was little so she enrolled for a Level 2 course in professional bakery to give her the skills she needs for a career in the industry.
Amy, who is studying for her qualification at the Metro One campus in the city centre, said: “The college was the only one that offered specific bakery courses so I went along to an open evening to have a look at the facilities. I saw some of the current students in action and realised that that’s what I wanted to do.
“It’s a really good course and I’m learning lots of new skills, such as the ways of making different types of bread. I’ve also learnt about how to work as part of a team which is important preparation for working in a bakery in the future.
“College is very different to school and gives you a chance to mature and become more independent. The facilities are good and the tutors are really helpful and have made learning easy. “
After completing the course Amy is intending to progress to the Level 3 qualification in professional bakery and get a job in the industry in the future.
