Beauty student Antonina Kolakiewicz
After working in the fragrance industry for many years, and with her children growing up, 30-year-old Antonina Kolakiewicz enrolled for the part-time level 2 diploma in beauty, taught at the college’s Metro One campus.
As part of the course Antonina got the chance to compete in the WorldSkills UK competition, winning a gold award in the Level 2 beauty category.
Antonina said: “As soon as the tutor told us about the WorldSkills competition at the start of the course I knew it was something I wanted to take part in, so to be asked to represent the college was a real compliment and to be named as the winner of my category was fantastic!
“I feel very proud of my achievements and the progress I’ve made – I’m coming back to college in September to do the Level 3 course which means that by this time next year I’ll be qualified and shows that it’s never too late to learn something new.”
Following her success in the competition, Antonina is waiting to find out whether she has made it through to the national finals of WorldSkills UK at the NEC in November.
