Beauty student Zoe Cooper
We first spoke to Zoe Copper last year when she was doing a Level 2 beauty qualification after deciding to retrain as a beauty therapist – and since then she’s progressed to the Level 3 qualification, done work experience in Italy and got a part-time job!
Zoe, aged 40, said: “The tutors at the college have really pushed me to be the best that I can be and their encouragement has made me stronger and more confident in what I do.
“Doing work experience in Italy was fantastic! I was there for five weeks and worked in a family-run salon. Some of the techniques are different over there so it was good to expand my skills – and at end of the placement the salon owner asked me if I’d like to go back and work there again. It definitely inspired me and my long-term plan is now to work abroad once I’ve completed my Level 3 qualification.
“And when I went for the interview for my part-time job here I know that the manager was impressed that I’d worked abroad. I’m proof that you’re never too old to retrain for a new career – if you really want to do something you can really do it!”
