Professional cookery student Carl Orallo
Eighteen-year-old Carl Orallo is well on the way to cooking up a great career as a chef thanks to the skills he’s learning on the NVQ Level 3 course in Professional Cookery.
Carl, who is studying for his qualification at the college’s Metro One campus in the city centre, said: “I’d really recommend this course to anyone who’s interested in becoming a professional chef.
“The tutors are great and explain everything well and I’m learning lots of skills that I didn’t know before – such as how to make hot sauces and jus.
“The equipment and facilities are like in a professional kitchen and serving what I’ve cooked to real customers in the college’s restaurant is great – when I get good comments from them it makes me feel good and really boosts my confidence.”
After completing the course Carl intends to continue studying and has applied to do a BA in Culinary Arts at University College Birmingham.
