Community student Grace Thompson
Grace Thompson is moving on to university after completing her Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths at one of the college’s community locations.
The 33-year-old, who hopes to become a social worker, said: “I was working in hospitality and catering but when my daughter started full-time education I decided to go for what I have always wanted to do as a career.
“In order to get the qualifications I needed I had to have a Level 2 in Functional Skills. I am now moving on to the University of Wolverhampton to study for a Foundation Year in Health and Wellbeing before progressing on to a full degree.
“The community centre was really easy for me to get to and I liked the atmosphere as it was more adult-centred than going into college. The tutor has been helpful and she broke things down and explained everything really well so it was easy to understand.”
