Community student Jodie Potts

Jodie Potts decided she needed to improve her maths and English to help her achieve her ambition of becoming a teaching assistant.

The 31-year-old, who is now studying functional skills in English and maths at Eastfield Community Centre, said: “I wanted to better myself and improve my skills so that I could help my children with their homework. The courses have been really useful and I’m learning a lot. I’m coming out of my shell and gaining in confidence and will now speak to people a lot easier.

“The tutors are really good and very helpful. If you are struggling with anything they will come and give you one-to-one support.

“I would never have gone to a college to study because there would have been too many people. Studying here is a lot quieter and it’s right on my doorstep.

“I would recommend anyone to come on a course like this.”
