Community student Michael Lawrence

Michael Lawrence decided to study for his Food Hygiene and Safety course at one of the college’s community locations to boost his CV and help improve his job prospects.

The 37-year-old said: “It’s an extra qualification and an employer can see that you have done something food related and that you know the basics. It’s an extra string to my bow and shows that you are motivated and committed to finding work.

“I like learning in the community because most of the other students are a similar age to me and it’s not as daunting as actually going into college.

“The tutor has been very good and you can ask them to repeat themselves or explain something and they will.

“I have learnt a lot, not only for work but also for home such as where to store food items. I would recommend the course to anyone, not only to help you find employment but also for your own personal benefit.”
