Community student Najma Shah

Najma Shah used to fear maths and English, but after joining functional skills courses in English and maths, which are held out in community locations, she is feeling a lot more confident.

The 44-year-old said: “I did my maths and English a long, long time ago so wanted to refresh my memory.

“Over the years I have realised I’m dyslexic. I used to fear maths and English but these courses have really helped and I now enjoy maths.

“Studying in the community is very convenient for me and it fits around my children. It’s fantastic that it’s here and I feel a lot more confident because I am among other parents.

“I would encourage anybody to go for it and enrol on a course.”
