Customer Service Apprentice Michelle Steadman

For nineteen-year-old Michelle Steadman a Customer Service apprenticeship was the ticket she needed to secure a full-time position at Wolverhampton City Council.

She said: “I had just finished sixth form and wasn’t too struck on the idea of going to university because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I was looking for jobs and came across the apprenticeships with the council and thought they sounded really interesting.

“I had heard of apprenticeships before but didn’t really know what they were or the benefits of doing them. I realised I could get a part-time job and not move forwards or do an apprenticeship and get a qualification in customer services.

“I am now an administrator within the council, and it’s nice to know that without completing the apprenticeship I would never have got the job, because all the skills I needed for the position I learnt as an apprentice.

“I used to be really against working in an office but I am really enjoying it now and I’m going to see where I can progress to!”
