Early Years student Grace Campbell

Eighteen-year-old Grace Campbell wants to become a primary school teacher and chose to do the two-year BTEc Level 3 diploma in early years, rather than following the traditional A Level route, to give her the qualification she needs to go to university.

Grace said: “I chose to do the Level 3 diploma as it’s much better suited to my future career as a teacher, will give me the same level of qualifications as A levels, and everything I’m learning will help when I progress to university next year.

“As part of the course we get the chance to do a number of work placements so I’ve been getting practical experience as well as learning in the classroom and can use my theoretical knowledge to inform the way I perform in the workplace and my on-the-job experience to enhance my learning back at college”

Grace, who has received offers to study for a BEd degree at three universities added: “Because of what I’ve learnt on the course and the way that the tutors helped me to prepare for my university interview I felt confident on the day and was able to answer all the questions I was asked by the panel – it feels brilliant to have been offered a place.”
