Early Years student Zahidulla Salih
16-year-old Zahidulla ‘Zee’ Salih wants to be a teacher in the future but when his school told him that his English GCSE grade wasn’t high enough for him to stop on for 6th form, went along to the Paget Road campus to see what other options were available to him.
After speaking to a member of staff from the advice and guidance team Zee was advised to enrol for the Level 2 early years diploma as the first step to gaining the qualifications he needs to go on to university.
Zee said: “I’d never heard of the early years course but it was the right choice for me as I’m learning how to work with children and build a relationship with them and I’ve done work experience placements in a nursery and a primary school – all of which will be really useful in the future.
“Studying at college has enabled me to focus on want I to study rather than having to do lots of subjects if I’d stopped on at school. The course is preparing me for my future career – it was a good decision to come here!”
As part of the course Zee is also re-taking his GCSE maths and is aiming for a grade A so that next year he can study A Level maths alongside the Level 3 diploma in early years.
