Electrical student Liam Baker

After completing his A Levels at school Liam Baker didn’t know whether to move on to a degree or learn a trade. After seeing his friends struggling to find work after leaving university he decided to apply to college to learn electrical installation instead.

The 22-year-old said: “University is expensive and everyone I spoke to who had gone on to university wasn’t getting a job. Having that kind of debt wouldn’t do me any favours, so I applied to study for my Level 3 Electrical Installation at college as it seemed to offer more job security – everyone is going to need an electrician at some point.

“The tutors have been brilliant and dragged some of us through who might have otherwise failed. I now have a job as an Improver, thanks to my assessor who got me the interview.”
