Employability – Robert Williams
Having worked in a warehouse since leaving school, 29-year-old Robert Williams wants to change direction and pursue a career in engineering.
Robert, whose family work in the industry, was told about the Preparation for Work in Manufacturing and Engineering course by a friend and has just completed the first phase which looks at LEAN manufacturing, improvement processes, waste management and problem solving.
Robert said: “JLR coming to Wolverhampton is a fantastic opportunity and the possibility of working for such a big company is great but I know I need to improve my skills first.
“The course has been really interesting and I’ve learnt lots that will be beneficial to me when applying for jobs in the future. The tutor was really good and gave us lots of tips of what to do – and not to do – when talking to colleagues in the workplace and I feel much more confident in front of people now.
“It’s never too late to change career – there are always opportunities out there and if you focus on what you want to do you will achieve it. I’ve got my sights set on JLR – it would be great to work there!”
After completing the first phase of the course Robert will now progress to the second phase – a five-week full-time training scheme looking at engineering principles, manufacturing activities, operational procedures and quality assurance which will give him a recognised Level 2 Certificate.
