Engineering apprentice Cameron Mia
Engineering apprentice Cameron Mia is celebrating after scooping bronze in a top skills competition.
Cameron, who is studying for his Level 3 diploma in Fabrication and Welding while working at Unitech Machinery Ltd in Burntwood, said: “The competition was very hard and it was daunting to have so many people watching me work. I was really happy to get bronze, as I came close last year. I don’t think I will struggle to find a job in the industry now!
He added: “I decided to pursue an apprenticeship as I wanted to get paid as I learnt. My apprenticeship has been really beneficial. At work, I have been given the help I need to develop my skills while at college I have gained the qualifications to back them up.”
Cameron will now undergo a further 18 months of intensive training and work towards being selected for the national squad to represent the UK in the world finals of the WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
