Engineering apprentice Hayden Wood
After leaving school at 16, Hayden Wood enrolled on for a full-time Level 2 diploma in mechanical engineering and has since progressed to the Level 3 qualification – and gained an apprenticeship in the industry too!
Hayden said: “I wanted to go straight into engineering and just over a year after enrolling at the college – and in the first couple of months of my Level 3 course – I was offered an apprenticeship at a local machine manufacturing company.
“I come to college one day a week to continue to study for the Level 3 diploma in mechanical engineering and the rest of the time I’m working for my employer building and testing machines for customers – it feels great to see a piece of equipment I’ve made being sent off to a customer and it gives me a real sense of pride in what I do.
“For me, the apprenticeship is great as I’m learning skills at college that are helping me in the workplace, I’m able to continue studying for my qualifications – and I’m getting paid at the same time too!”
