Essential Skills student Peter Witton
Since a childhood accident left him with memory loss, 56-year-old Peter Witton has struggled with reading and writing and, after deciding he needed some one-to-one support, he joined a six month English phonics course run by the college.
Peter said: “In just six months I’ve gone from not being able to recognise individual letters to being able to read and write short sentences.
“Before I did the course I used to panic if I couldn’t understand things, but because the tutors taught us to how to work words out I feel so much more confident.
“And best of all is that I can now help my young grandson with his reading and writing and that feels great – I’m really proud of myself!”
