Former student Nicky Thompson

Forty-one-year-old Nicky Thompson has gone from being a book keeper to opening her own beauty salon in just three years – proving you’re never too old to learn something new and it’s never too late to change career!

Nicky, who studied part-time for the Level 2 qualification in beauty and Level 3 in massage at the college’s Metro One campus kicked-off her new career by setting up her own mobile beauty business – Lavandula Blu – and it was such a success that two weeks ago she opened her own salon in Lichfield Road Wednesfield.

Nicky said: “It was daunting going back to college after such a long time but I’m so glad I did as it’s changed my life in every way. I’ve got so much more confidence now and it’s great to know that I’m making people feel good and making a difference to their lives too.

“It’s fantastic to have my own business and when I look around my salon I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved – and it’s all thanks to the college as if I it hadn’t offered the course I wanted on a part-time basis I’d never have been able to do the qualifications that have led to my new career.”
