Former beauty therapy student Victoria Turvey

For 24-year-old Victoria Turvey, studying for beauty qualifications at the college not only landed her a job with Benefit Cosmetics but also led to her being promoted to  a management position before she’d even finished her course!

Victoria said: “After gaining a degree in spa management at university I came to college to learn more practical skills and did Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in beauty therapy as well as a certificate in nail technology.

“Thanks to the skills I learnt on the courses, combined with the experience of working with different clients in the college’s Academy beauty salon, I got a part-time job with Benefit in House of Fraser last November and when I found out in May that the manager’s position was available I felt confident to apply for it.

“Eight other people applied for the post– including one who had worked in the industry for many years – and when I was offered the manager’s job it felt absolutely amazing! The person who interviewed me said she was impressed with my drive and enthusiasm and I feel really proud of myself!”

Victoria added: “The tutors on the course were behind me every step of the way and gave me the confidence to know that I can achieve whatever I set out to do – and I’d encourage anyone else with a passion for something to do the same as it’s really rewarding when you start to become successful.”

Keen to continue studying Victoria is hoping to study for a Level 4 HNC in hair & beauty management from September to further develop her practical skills and lead her one step closer to her dream of eventually becoming a beauty therapist on cruise ship.
