“Working with children makes me happy – it’s what I’ve wanted to do my whole life and now I’ve finally achieved it!”

So says 18-year-old Tasharna Sailsman who is proof that you can achieve your dream if you work hard and gain the qualifications you need for your future career.

Tasharna said: “I love being with children and seeing them progress so after leaving school I enrolled for the two-year Level 3 Children’s Care, Learning & Development qualification at college.

“It was so different to being at school and I liked that the course was split between learning at college and spending time out on work placements – it’s a great way of preparing you for working life and it gave me more independence and built up my confidence in talking to other people.

“During two of my placements I was offered jobs in the schools I was working in, however I decided not to take them as I wanted to complete my qualification at college – and I’m so glad that I did as I’ve now got a job as a teaching assistant in a local primary school and I love it!

“ To anyone who thinks that they may want to do a childcare qualification I’d say go for it and achieve what you can – working with children is amazing and, as time goes by, you’ll see lots of things that will make you so proud.”
