Former student – and now member of college staff – Tendai Zichawo
“I can’t believe how far I’ve come in just three years,” says 19-year-old Tendai Zichawo who joined the college as an engineering student when he was 16, progressed to an apprenticeship in our engineering department, and is now employed here as an engineering technician.
Tendai added: “I visited the college’s engineering stand on a school trip to The Skills Show in Birmingham and straight away I knew that that’s what I wanted to do. I enrolled on the full-time Level 3 diploma in mechanical engineering and then progressed to the apprenticeship which allowed me to work and get paid alongside studying modules from the Level 3 extended diploma.
“I’m now employed in the college’s engineering department as a permanent member of staff and it feels great to have a job. Some people my age aren’t in any form of education or employment whereas I’ve done both and I’m still learning new things every day. Practical skills are in demand by employers these days and I want to gain as much experience and as many qualifications as I can and then progress to university in the future.
“I can’t put into words what a great experience college has been for me – I’d recommend it to anyone!”
