GCSE Science student Sharon Walton

Thirty-nine-year old Sharon Walton left school with no GCSEs, but over the years she has made up for lost time and racked up a number of qualifications with the college. She has just gained a B in GCSE Science and now plans to move on to university.

She said: “I have completed a BTEC with the college and several GCSEs. I also trained and worked as a hairdresser before becoming a teaching assistant.

“I kept being told I should become a teacher, so decided to do a teaching degree but needed a Science GCSE to get in.

“This college is so supportive and I have never had a tutor that hasn’t been there for me. They don’t treat you like you are stupid if you don’t understand and it’s a nice safe environment – you know you are being looked after. I have never got lower than a B in any of my qualifications at college and that’s down to the support of the teachers.”
