Hair & beauty student Abbie Atkinson
After a couple of weeks in the sixth form at school, 16-year-old Abbie Atkinson decided it wasn’t for her, so she came along to college to find out what other options were available.
Abbie, who is studying for the L1 diploma in hair and beauty, said: “My friends and teachers really wanted me to stop on at school but I realised I needed a change as I wanted to be more independent and study something I’m interested in.
“The Level 1 course covers all aspects of hair and beauty and I’m learning how to do manicures and pedicures, apply make-up, and wash and blow dry hair and I’m hoping to progress to the Level 2 hair and beauty qualification next year.
“I’m so pleased I decided to come to college – I’ve already learnt a lot more than when I was at school, I’ve met lots of new people and I feel much more grown up!”
