Hair student Ilona Fajferek
After doing a short hairdressing course in Poland, Ilona Fajferek worked in a hair salon on a voluntary basis when she first moved to Wolverhampton before deciding to come to college to gain her professional qualifications.
Ilona initially signed up for a Level 2 qualification and, having completed the course, progressed to the Level 3 which she studies at the college’s Academy training salon at the Metro One campus in the city centre.
Ilona, aged 24, said: “I’ve learnt different cuts and styles and how to apply foils, and working with clients in the salon is like a real job and doesn’t feel like being a student. I love seeing how pleased they are with their finished style and if they’re happy I’m happy!”
And Ilona’s hard work and commitment to learning has paid off as she has been offered a place on a two-year Foundation Degree in Spa Management at the University of Birmingham from September.
Ilona added: “When I first came to the Wolverhampton I used to walk past the training salon and dream of studying there and then going on to university. What I learnt there definitely helped me to get my place on the degree programme and achieve my dream – I’m really excited to be going!”
