Hair student Laura Starr
After doing a Level 1 hairdressing qualification at school, 18-year-old Laura Starr came to the college to continue with her Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications at the Metro One campus in the city centre.
Laura, who wants to become a stylist on cruise ships in the future, said: “The course has taught me a lot and I feel much more confident both as a hairdresser, and personally, as a result.
“The course covers cutting, styling, perming, colouring and colour correction and we get the opportunity to use our skills to provide professional hairdressing services to customers in the Academy salon.
“Working with real customers is good experience and when they say positive things about what you’ve done it’s a real confidence boost and helps you to know you’re doing the right thing.
“It feels good to be a qualified hairdresser at just 18 and I’ve now gone on to a barbering apprenticeship so that I can work in a unisex salon to extend my skills and impress employers when I apply for jobs in the future.”
