Hair student Michelle Cresswell
After being made redundant from her job in a manufacturing company, 35-year-old Michelle Cresswell used the opportunity to change career and train to become a hairdresser – something she has always wanted to do.
Michelle said: “I popped in to the Metro One campus on the off chance just to see what courses were available, spoke to a tutor and enrolled on a part-time Level 2 hairdressing course the same day!
“I enjoyed Level 2 so much that I then moved on to Level 3 and have learnt so much. Working in the Academy training salon feels just like a proper job and it’s a great feeling when clients are pleased – it feels good to know you’ve made them feel nice.
“Since enrolling on the course I haven’t looked back! It’s been a really worthwhile experience and a fantastic opportunity that has opened doors in so many areas for me – I wish I’d done it years ago!”
Michelle now hopes to work in a salon for a few months and then open her own mobile hairdressing business.
