Hair student Vicky Macefield
As a former customer at the college’s Academy hair training salon, Vicky Macefield knew just the place to go when she decided to do her hairdressing qualifications.
She signed up for a Level 2 course – following a family tradition as both her sister and sister-in-law did their hairdressing qualifications at the college – and gets the chance to work with real customers in the salon.
Vicky, aged 27, said: “Whenever I had my hair done at the training salon I always felt as though I was being seen by a professional, so when I decided I wanted a change of career I knew I wanted to learn in a place where I’d felt comfortable being a customer.
“I’ve learnt how to cut, colour and style hair and I definitely feel that I’ve got the skills and confidence to get a job in the future. Working in the salon has been a great experience – when a customer goes away pleased with the cut I’ve done it makes me feel great!
“I kept thinking that I was too old to learn something new but I’ve realised that that’s not true and I’m really glad I made the decision to come to college.”
After completing the Level 2 course Vicky intends to enrol for the Level 3 qualification and then get a job in a salon.
