Hairdressing Apprentice Danielle Walton

When Danielle Walton started her hairdressing apprenticeship with the college nine years ago, little did she realise it would lead her to owning her own salon.

The 26-year-old, who owns Coco Hair Salon in Wednesfield, said: “I never thought I would be a hairdresser, but when I was 17 I needed to do something and luckily my sister pushed me in the right direction and encouraged me to do a hairdressing apprenticeship. I loved it and worked in a great salon, and now employ apprentices myself who are helping my business grow.

“I don’t think going to university would have helped me get to where I am today. There are so many other forms of education and training if you want to go into hairdressing, university wouldn’t have benefitted me at all.”
