Hairdressing apprentice Kirby Brewer

Kirsty Brewer - L3 hairdressing

Nineteen-year-old hairdressing apprentice Kirby Brewer has proved she’s a cut above the rest after scooping a place on the talent team of a leading hair product company after impressing industry experts with her skills.

Kirby Brewer, who is an apprentice at Luisa Butera Creative Hair in Kidderminster, has been selected as one of six members of the 2015 Clynol Protégé Team after taking part in an X-factor style search to find the most talented young hairdressers in the industry.

In the competition – at the Schwarzkopf Academy in London – Kirby was given one hour to cut and style her model’s pre-coloured hair under the watchful eye of judges, and then had just three minutes to present her work to a panel of experts and explain the technical skills and techniques she had used to create the desired look.

Kirby, who wants to become a session stylist in the future, said: “It was fantastic to be part of such a prestigious event and producing my style in front of the judges was a wonderful experience.  There were some amazing hairstyles produced in the final and I just couldn’t believe it when I was named as one of the team!”

As part of the team, Kirby – who combines working at the salon with studying at the college’s Hair Training Academy in Worcester – will receive specialist training from experts in the industry, work on professional photo shoots and creative events, and get the chance to attend the British Hairdressing Awards in November.
