Hairdressing apprentice Lauren Rowley

Lauren Rowley - hairdressing apprentice

When thinking about her next steps after school, 16-year-old Lauren Rowley knew she wanted to go into hairdressing but didn’t want to enrol on a full-time course.  Having found out about the national apprenticeship scheme she started a placement at the Heavenly salon in Tettenhall five days after leaving school!

Lauren, who has just started the Level 2 qualification in hairdressing, said: “I knew I wanted to learn a trade and I realised that doing an apprenticeship would give me more hands-on experience working with clients than if I did a full-time course.

“I’ve already learnt so much.  I’m benefitting from working with experienced stylists and colourists in the salon and learning new skills at college – and I’m getting paid for something I’m passionate about too!

“Working in the training salon at the Metro One campus is great experience too – I get the chance to work with real clients and can ask the tutors for advice with anything I’m not sure about – I love it!”

And Lauren has great ambitions for the future as one day she wants to open her own salon.
