Health and Social Care student Sat Matharu
When 42-year-old Sat Matharu realised his vocation lay in Mental Health Awareness, he enrolled at the college to gain the qualifications he needed to pursue a career in that area.
The former estate agent and mortgage advisor is currently studying for his Mental Health Awareness qualification. He said: “This is a huge career change for me, but I realised I really wanted to help others within my community, and get rid of the stigma attached to mental illness. I am also really keen to make support more accessible.
“This is totally new to me and initially I found coming back to college after more than 20 years a bit daunting, but I now feel totally relaxed. The tutor is amazing. She has been so supportive and willing to help me not just in the classroom but also outside the classroom and I know I can email her my questions and she will reply quickly.
“There’s no harm going back into education and it has been the most valuable thing I have done in my life.”
