HNC engineering student Stuart Kendrick
Having worked in engineering since he left school, 48-year-old Stuart Kendrick returned to studying to bring his skills and knowledge up-to-date and give him an industry-recognised qualification.
Having completed the part-time Level 3 diploma in mechanical engineering last year, Stuart has now progressed to the HNC and attends college one day a week.
Stuart, who works ZF Lemforder – a manufacturer of automotive suspension components – in Darlaston, and supervises a team of six, said: “The HNC course is giving me a much wider view of mechanical engineering – I’m developing my knowledge of working with different types of materials, my IT skills are improving, and I’ve learnt how to plan and manage projects – all of which I’m finding extremely useful back at work.
“And, as I’m learning, I’m able to give guidance to the guys on the team who come to me for advice so, not only am I up-skilling myself, I’m also helping them to develop too.”
