HNC hair & beauty management student Lara Blackshaw

HNC hair and beauty student

Returning to college last year to update her hairdressing skills after 16 years out of the business not only gave 33-year-old Lara Blackshaw the Level 3 qualification she needs to work as a stylist but also got her thinking about her long-term career plan.

Lara, who has now progressed to the HNC in hair and beauty management, said: “When I wanted to return to hairdressing I found that my original Level 2 qualification was out of date as I’d been out of the business for so long.

“It took a lot of courage to decide to come back to college after such a long time but I’m so glad I did as, during the Level 3 course, I started to think about what I want to do in the future.

“I’m really interested in becoming a hairdressing tutor or lecturer and doing the HNC course is teaching me valuable business skills, as well as how to lead people and be a good manager, skills that will be transferable to a classroom situation.”
