Hospitality and catering student Ruby Wilkes

“I’m a new person after my placement,” said 17-year-old hospitalty and catering student Ruby Wilkes after two weeks’ work experience in the kitchen at a local pub.

Ruby, who studied for the Level 2 diploma in professional cookery at the college’s Metro One campus, shared her thoughts from the placement, and her hopes for the future, with readers of The Guardian newspaper after being featured in its ‘My First…’ series, which focusses on students’ first experiences in the workplace.
