Job success for cookery student George O’Garro
We first met George earlier in the year when he was part-way through the Level 2 diploma in professional cookery – and just a few months later he’s working in the industry after being offered a job as a chef at the Royal Angus Hotel in the centre of Birmingham.
George, aged 39, said: “I did work experience at the hotel as part of the course and was invited to an interview with the head chef. I had to work in the hotel kitchen and carry out a number of tasks but because of what I’d learnt at college it felt very confident and comfortable working in front of him – and he must have been impressed as he offered me a full-time job there as soon as I’ve completed my course in June.
“It’s amazing how far I’ve come in such a short space of time – college prepared me for the real world and I’m proud of my success, I’m living the dream!”
And George is so keen to continue learning that he’s going to come back to college to study for the Level 3 diploma in professional cookery as well as working full-time at the hotel.
