Journalism Apprentice Becky Weaver
Budding reporter Becky Weaver is on the path to success after scooping a coveted journalism apprenticeship with the Express and Star.
The 21-year-old, who has completed art and design and bakery courses at the college, said: “I have always been interested in writing and social media and started a blog last year which I really enjoyed doing. I liked the idea of writing reviews so when I saw this apprenticeship advertised it was a great opportunity for me.
“It’s a great way to get into this industry and get the training you need without having to pay university fees. A lot of my friends have just finished their degrees and are in tons of debt and can’t get a job. I’m in no debt at all, am earning a wage and I’m doing what they have spent three years at university working towards. I can see apprenticeships taking over from university in the future as they are such a better option.”
