LearnIT student Roxanne Pearson
Updating her IT skills with a range of short courses at the college’s Learn-IT centre has paid off for 43-year-old Roxanne Pearson as she was offered the first job she applied for!
Roxanne, who successfully gained Level 1 and 2 qualifications in powerpoint presentations, word processing and spreadsheets, has been appointed as a sales administrator at a local double glazing company.
Roxanne said “When I decided to go back to work after bringing up my children I knew I’d have to update my IT skills and the courses offered at the Learn-IT centre were just what I was looking for as I was able to fit studying around my other commitments.
“The tutors were really supportive and took time to explain things or offer extra tuition if there was something I was struggling with. And even though I was only in college for two sessions a week I was able to access all the course materials and work books online from home which was great.
“When I applied for the job I thought the company might prefer someone younger but they said they were impressed with how I’d updated my skills and how I would be able to use these in my role – I was so excited to be offered the job and it feels absolutely fantastic to be going back to work!”
