Mechanical engineering student Dashne Ahmed
Twenty-year-old Dashne Ahmed hopes to study architectural engineering at university so came to college to study mechanical engineering to give her a solid foundation on which to build in the future.
Dashne – who gained the Level 1 qualification last year and is coming to the end of the Level 2 diploma – said: “I came to college straight after my A Levels as, although I know the area I want to specialise in in the future, I needed to learn about engineering from the beginning.
“I’ve learnt how to design and make components from drawings, developed skills in welding, turning and drilling and my confidence has improved too so that I’m now able to make my views heard in classroom discussions.
“And even though there are only two girls in the class everyone gets on really well and we all help each other out if there’s anything we’re not sure about.”
Dashne will be progressing to the Level 3 diploma from September and then intends to either pursue a place at university or apply for a job in the industry.
