“I worked in an office for a week, but it wasn’t for me – I realised I wanted to do something hands-on instead”, said 18-year-old motor vehicle student Emma Venables.
Emma, who is studying for a full-time Level 2 diploma in motor vehicle service and repair added: “Every day is different and there’s always a variety of things to do in the workshop and different components to learn about.
“I particularly enjoy learning about how engines work and, thanks to the tutors, I feel more confident in what I’m doing.
“College is a lot better than school as it’s a more relaxed way of learning and as everyone is here because they want to be here there aren’t any disruptions in lessons.
“And being a girl in a traditionally male environment hasn’t been a problem – I’m seen as ‘one of the lads’ and not treated any differently to anyone else in the class.”
