Motor Vehicle student Rachel Faulkner
After leaving school, 21-year-old Rachel Faulkner worked in an administrative role but didn’t enjoy being in an office environment and wanted to do something completely different.
Rachel said: “I’ve always liked cars, and co-drive a rally car, so went along to an open evening to find out more about motor vehicle courses.
“I signed-up for the one-year Level 2 course in motor vehicle service and repair and am really enjoying it.
“The course is teaching me all the basics – such as removing and replacing parts and diagnosing faults – as well as vehicle electronics which is good as that is the future of the industry.
“I’m one of only two girls in the class but am not treated any differently by the other students or the tutors who are really helpful. The workshop is well equipped and there is always a range of cars to work on. I particularly enjoy working with real customers and their positive comments really encourage me – I feel more confident now and equipped to pursue a career in the industry.”
After completing the course Rachel hopes to get an apprenticeship in a car dealership and eventually build rally cars.
