NCTJ student Karl Aston
Karl Aston is celebrating after being offered a job as a journalist just four months into his course.
The 51-year-old, who is studying for his NCTJ qualification, has secured a job as a reporter at the Shropshire Star. He said: “I had always been interested in writing so when I was made redundant from my job at a IT company I set up a community magazine in Kidderminster. This really gave me a taste for journalism so I decided to pursue it as a career and enrolled on the NCTJ course.
“The course has been fantastic. I had been out of education for some time but have really enjoyed the whole learning experience.
“When I went for my work experience at the Shropshire Star as part of my course I was determined to make a good impression. I was delighted to be offered a job after just a month. I am so pleased that I have achieved what I was aiming for and it’s all down to the college and the tutor.”
