Pathways student Ashley Blagrove
Doing work experience as part of a Pathways course has set 19-year-old Ashley Blagrove on the road to a career as a motor mechanic.
After leaving school Ashley enrolled on the Pathways programme to improve his maths and English skills and, after impressing the manager of the garage where he did work experience, he has been offered an apprenticeship there when he finishes the course.
Ashley, aged 19, said: “If you didn’t do very well at school the Pathways course is a good opportunity to carry on studying and learn the basics. At school you just learn, but at college it’s more hands-on and you learn by doing.
“Just because you didn’t do well at school doesn’t mean you can’t do an apprenticeship – different people are good at different things and if you want to do something you just need to give it your best shot.”
