Photography student Stephen Tyler
Stephen Tyler scooped first place in a national photographers’ competition after completing his Level 3 Photography course at college, and is now enjoying life behind the lens as a volunteer for West Midlands Fire Service. He also recently acted as the official photographer for historian and TV celebrity Lesley Smith.
The 58-year-old local government officer said: “I had been interested in photography for about 40 years and enrolled on the course because I wanted to take it further and get a qualification.
“I submitted one of my photos of Wells Cathedral I had taken as part of my course to a competition run by the Disabled Photographers’ Society, where it won first place in the Open Preliminary Print category. A second photo I entered came third.
“I also work for the fire service as a volunteer photographer, and cover a lot of events for them.
“The class was superb and the tutor was so enthusiastic. It was great to be taught by someone who really cared about what they did. The facilities were brilliant and there was a lot of new equipment.
“The course has given me a lot more confidence and has encouraged me to use Photoshop a lot more as well as given me the opportunity to use equipment such as studio lights which I had never used before.”
