Salon owner Jane James
With a grandmother who set up the first ladies hairdressers in Wolverhampton, there was every chance that Jane James would follow in her footsteps and after completing an apprentice with the college 40 years ago she is now the owner of the family business Jane James @Evergreen Hairdressers.
Jane said: “After completing my apprenticeship I started working in the family salon and have been there ever since!
“Apprenticeships are vital in the hairdressing industry and give individuals both the practical and theoretical skills of the job. They are the most important people that the customer meets – they are the people who are at the end of the phone and book in the clients, and who meet and greet on arrival. They are the face of the salon and what sells our business.
“We have taken on more than 20 apprentices over the years and have a really good working relationship with the college. It is thanks to our apprentices that we are able to grow our business and expand our premises.”
