Science student Jessica Keay
16-year-old Jessica Keay has ambitions of being a science teacher in a secondary school and is currently studying for a two-year BTec Level 3 in Applied Science as the first step to her future career.
Jessica said: “If I’d stayed on at school I’d have had to do up to five A’Levels, whereas coming to college means I can focus on just one subject which makes studying so much easier.
“The course covers biology, chemistry and physics and is a good mixture of theory and practical activities and we’re encouraged to do our own research, on top of what we’re taught, which helps us to learn even more.
The facilities in the labs are really good, the tutors are very helpful, and we have access to the science workshop where we can always get extra help if there’s anything we’re not sure of.
“For a while I was unsure about what I wanted to do in the future but coming to college has made my mind up and I’ve already recommended coming here to some of my friends!”
After completing the Level 3 course next year Jessica plans to do A Level psychology at the college and then apply to university to study for a BEd degree.
