Sports student – Heather Lander
Heather Lander has found the additional support provided by the college a huge help, and after achieving D*D in her Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport is moving on to university.
The 18-year-old said: “I have dyslexia which I have had extra support for. In my first year I received one-to-one support and could also attend a special workshop for anyone studying sport. The workshop offered extra help not available in lessons which was really useful. It takes me longer to process information so the workshops helped me go over things I had learnt and read out my assignments.
“I had a 98% attendance record because I knew I had to work harder than other students as if I missed a class it would take me longer to catch up. I enjoyed college and didn’t feel it was a chore.
“I am now going to Wolverhampton University to study Sports Coaching and in the future would like to work within schools as a Sports Coach.”
