Sports student Laura Guest
Nineteen-year-old Laura Guest didn’t enjoy school and enrolled at college so that she could concentrate on the area she wished to pursue a career in.
Laura, who has just completed her BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, said: “I was in sixth form and started my A Levels but I hated school and A levels didn’t interest me. I thought I would just concentrate on sport, which I enjoyed.
“At college you have the opportunity to focus on one area that interests you and which you know will give you the skills you will need in your career. I was surprised to enjoy college as much as I did – I found it wasn’t a chore to get up in the morning, and by coming in every day I was always on top of my work.
“At school I felt like I wasn’t very good at anything and it was nice to come here and realise I was good at something. The tutors were so encouraging and I was determined to achieve good grades. I was delighted to get Distinction*, Distinction*, Distinction.”
Laura is moving on to do Sports Studies at Wolverhampton University.
