Travel student Jade Lewin
Travel and Tourism student Jade Lewin applied for the role of environmental officer for the Student’s Union to help boost her skills and enhance her CV.
The 18-year-old said: “My role includes making the environment safer, ensuring the college grounds are clean and being a positive role model.
“One of the benefits of coming to college is that I get these opportunities – and I hope the position will help me acquire skills in negotiation, become more of a team player and improve my confidence.
“Working in the Travel and Tourism industry has always been an aspiration of mine as it allows you to travel the world. I am from Jamaica and if I ever choose to go back there I know I will be able to transfer my skills over there.
“I was in sixth form before studying for my A Levels but decided to leave and come to college as I didn’t cope well with the exams and realised a BTEC was the equivalent to three A Levels. I’m enjoying the college better than school because I feel more mature and I’m around people my own age.”
