Welding student Andrew Parsons
Welding student Andrew Parsons was delighted to pick up a bronze award in the sheet metalwork category of the WorldSkills UK competition.
The 35-year-old, who is studying for a Level 3 diploma in fabrication and welding at the college’s Paget Road campus, said: “For the competition, I had two days to build a chiminea in stainless steel. There were some really good competitors so I went to the awards ceremony to support them – I was surprised when my name was called out for an award!
“I find sheet metal work fascinating – the fact you can turn a flat sheet of nothing into something that is both ornamental and useful really appeals to me.
“The course will definitely help me in my career as I have gained a huge amount of new skills and updated those I already had.
“The tutor has been such a good lecturer and has a vast amount of knowledge.”
