What are Apprenticeships?

They are work-based training programmes designed around the needs of your business. Apprentices learn on-the-job, working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off-the-job, Apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications, ensuring your staff are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to help you maintain your competitive advantage. You can use Apprenticeships to train both new and existing employees.

What is the cost and how long does an Apprenticeship take?

The cost of an Apprenticeship depends on the age of the Apprentice. Please contact the Employer Services Team for more information.

The length of an Apprenticeship varies depending on prior skills levels of the Apprentice, the qualification being followed and industry sector. Generally, Apprenticeships take a minimum of 9 months to complete.

Our facilities

The college continuously invests in new technology to ensure its training facilities remain state-of-the-art and in line with industry. Our Engineering facilities have recently undergone a £500,000 refurbishment including the installation of brand new equipment – including lathes, CNCs, milling machines and the latest software – as well as a specialist computer aided design suite offering the latest CAD drafting facilities and dedicated CAD/CAM PCs in the workshops.

The fully-operational modern Motor Vehicle garage includes an open-plan mechanical workshop, a state-of-the-art spray booth and paint room, an air con and electrical repair area, as well as a 14-booth welding and fabrication workshop.
We train over 350 Hairdressing Apprentices in our hi-tech Hairdressing Training Salons in Wolverhampton, Telford and Worcester every year. The salons provide Apprentices with all the facilities they need to excel during their time at the college. Our employer focussed Construction training facilities are state-of-the-art and represent high industry standards with a recent investment of £8 million.

Apprentices are able to learn their trade in a purpose built centre which boasts workshops for brickwork, electrical installation, carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating and ground works. We also have a purpose built centre for Gas Training and Assessment which has a full range of open flued appliances and is capable of training up to ACS standards.

We invested £300,000 in the Polymer Training & Innovation Centre (PTIC), which is a unique technical training centre offering practical training across a range of processes for the UK polymer industry and includes a wide range of specialist machinery used by companies across the country.
