Courtney Thompson – Apprenticeship in Hairdressing

25 Jun 2024

Twenty-three year-old Courtney Thompson had a passion for hair and decided to apply to do a hairdressing apprenticeship through the college. Courtney was successful and is nearing completion of her apprenticeship with Lisa Milner Hair Salon.

Courtney said: “The benefits of the apprenticeship were that I was able to work and train at the same time as getting paid.

“I have regular meetings with my college assessor and am able to contact them whenever I need. Members of the salon team also help me a lot and assess my work with clients.

“I have gained a lot more confidence in myself and my hairdressing skills since starting this apprenticeship. We are constantly learning new things, new trends and new products and I am hopefully that upon successful completion I become a successful hairstylist, progressing further with Lisa Milner hair.

“I would tell someone in a similar position to myself that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. You don’t always need to go to university to be successful.”

Lucy Chilton, the salon manager, has been working with Courtney and said the following: “Courtney has worked for us since 2018. She has been a hardworking member of staff from the day she started.

“Courtney completed her Level 1 and Level 2 with us and then got accepted into our employment as a graduate stylist straight away. She then was promoted to stylist after a year working on the salon floor. Courtney is punctual, skillful and hardworking.

“Apprentices are extremely important to our salon, they keep the salon running smoothly and ensuring our stylists keep their column in check.”
